Welcome Letter

Hello and welcome,

Thank you for your interest in the position of Assistant Director Project Delivery, Highways and Transport at Cambridgeshire County Council.

These are exciting times for anyone who joins the County Council – with a new Joint Administration already working collaboratively and effectively on a clear vision for its future, with a strong focus on our sustainable transport infrastructure needs.

Cambridgeshire is a big county with big ambitions. As well as being richly endowed with natural assets – with a unique landscape which harbours a rich diversity of species, Cambridgeshire’s people are innovative and entrepreneurial. Its businesses are at the forefront of the new industrial revolution, and its academic offer is world-beating.

Climate change is a major challenge here in Cambridgeshire as elsewhere in the world. We are taking a leading role in the fight, as a founder member of the UK100 Countryside Climate Network. We have recently committed to bring forward our targets for reaching Net Zero and recognise the important role our transport infrastructure plays in achieving this.

We are a county of contrasts and enormous potential - from the academic and biotech focus of Greater Cambridge, and the strong manufacturing sector around Peterborough, to the agriculture and agri-tech economy of the Fens. Together with Peterborough we form a key part of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, while the districts of Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire are our partners in the Greater Cambridge Partnership city deal.

You would be working within this complex delivery landscape, working with strategic delivery and funding partners, with the potential to deliver meaningful and transformational change. We need a strong, inspirational and collaborative AD to deliver this potential.

Following recent reorganisations this new AD post is a critical player in the Highways and Transport Management team. Working closely with the AD Transport Strategy and Network Management and the AD Highway Maintenance, together with myself you will be key in leading your highly skilled and experienced teams in delivering a truly connected sustainable transport network serving the diverse needs of the community.

If you have the ambition and drive to be a part of our successful Senior Management team and want to play a key part in delivering the ambitions of this beautiful county, delivering on our many opportunities, then I would very much like to hear from you.

Sue Procter
